4 Overall Yums (3.5 food, 4.5 service)

Yes, the restaurant reviews are back. In my early blogging days I sometimes got responses from restaurants I reviewed, but that’s not why I’m doing it. I love to eat, and I love to write, it’s that simple

I realized that some of our favorite places to eat are not the sort of fine-dining, 5 Yum establishments I sometimes have the good fortune to rave about. Sometimes they’re just diners, or casual establishments, and I can’t fairly compare them to a $200 meal, excluding tip, that was worth every penny. In the case of Plumsteadville Inn, where we went for the second time last night, they’re just very inviting, popular, often crowded and crowd-pleasing places where you can get good comfort food and great service.

Located in Plumsteadville, PA, just a half hour from our New Jersey home, Plumsteadville Inn has been around since 1751 in various incarnations. The building has been expanded, and is now a large, semi-sprawling restaurant that has a bar, multiple seating areas, and the kind of neighborly ambiance that makes you feel as if all these strangers could be friends.

We stuck with lower-end fare because, why not? I had a wedge salad and a hamburger with sauteed mushrooms and avocado spread (my one note: please put more than a dollop of that spread on the burger when you’re adding a $1.75 upcharge). Frank had sauteed brussels sprouts and a hamburger with blue cheese. We both got cheesecake to take home, unprepared for the flat tire we had on the way back. Oh well, life happens.

There are a dozen official entrees to choose from, and the menu has plenty to offer. Steak, fish, salads, sandwiches, desserts, it’s all there. You can spend as little or as much as you want to, and you’ll leave satisfied. There’s also a busy bar I’m sure the locals flock to in any season.

I want to give a special shoutout to our server, K.J. She was fast, friendly, great attitude, and a very hard worker.

If you’re in the area, or you feel like making a half-hour drive (which is fairly common for us), don’t miss Plumsteadville Inn. You’ll definitely want it on your return list.

Restaurant reviews are based on a 5 Yum scale, 5 meaning put it on your must list, 1 meaning eat at your peril.
