It’s like having your own personal snitch

Why would Amazon want to record everything we say in our homes (which we already knew it could)? Because they can! ‘They’ being Jeff Bezos and whatever nefarious people, agencies and authorities he’s aligned with. I got off Facebook for ethical reasons, but you know they scrub social media for everything you write and post. Alexa was always a little creepy, and now I really don’t want this robotic informant in our house.

Me as Queen Esther

We enjoyed a very fun Purim service at the Unitarian Universalist congregation on Sunday. I will always call it church, because I always have. During the “milestone” section where we light candles of support, remembrance, strength, whatever, I lit a candle for joy in the face of fear. So many people are fearful now, and rightly so. I have to admit the dark clouds that have drawn over America are storm clouds and frightening. Yet I insist on never giving my joy to the Evil Ones, who are pretty much the entire Regime and so many of the people who support them. I am all but incapable of differentiating the two at this point.

Today the regime not only ignored a judge’s order not to transport incarcerated migrants to El Salvador under an 18th century law that is only used in wartime, they mocked the judge.

They mocked the judge. Let that sink in and stay there. The Attorney General of the United States supports the mocking of a judge, and collectively they are making a mockery of “the rule of law,” which has ceased to have any meaning in the United States. It begins here, but it will not end here.

I am now nervous about going to any point of entry or exit to this country. I’m nervous about leaving on a trip and being apprehended at the airport or cruise terminal. Why would they do that, you ask? I’m outspoken. I don’t hide my views. I don’t doubt in the least that we are rapidly reaching a point where 66-year-old American citizens will be arrested as a way to silence us all.

With all due respect to my many like-minded friends, it is time to stop saying, “He can’t do that,” or “they can’t do that,” or “that’s against the law.” What is or is not against the law no longer means anything to this regime. Just as the Constitution now means whatever the corrupt majority on the Supreme Court says it does, the “rule of law” means only what the Trump regime decides it means. With Chuck Schumer having failed us completely and demoralized us all, it’s time to accept that WE are the only ones now who can keep this regime from “doing that,” whatever it is. Otherwise, everything you read on every Substack, assuming it’s not shut down at some point, will be a post-mortem for a country dead and buried.

Indivisible

This was a local meeting of Indivisible in New Jersey. Point of note: we were almost all over 60, so I don’t have any tolerance for the “Okay, Boomer,” bullshit I hear from the Insta youth crowd who were too busy taking pictures of their pouted lips to get out and vote to stop this. We’re old, we’re bold, we’ll fight till we drop.

Today’s parting shot …

This is my beloved cat Wilma. She’s 10 now and heading off today for dental surgery on Tuesday. I am very attached to this little girl, and I’ve been an anxious mess for two weeks, ever since I took her for a check up and found out she needed this done.

Of the many cats I’ve had over the past 40 years, Wilma is the only one I’ve had such a completely hard time getting into a cat carrier. I have to catch her when she’s asleep or napping, then dash over to the top-loading carrier and drop her in. If she has any idea what’s going on it’s hopeless and won’t happen. That’s why I’m taking her in a day early and boarding her, so I have all day Monday to scoop her up.

Light a candle of protection for Wilma, please. She brings me joy, amuses me, and talks to me constantly, when she’s not sleeping. Update next week.
