A Conversation with Brad Shreve, Author and Host of the Gay Mystery Authors Podcast

Brad Shreve, author and host of the Gay Mystery Authors Podcast, joins me for a chat about his life, his entry into writing and the gay mystery genre, and the successful launch of his podcast. You can listen to him interview a stellar list of authors, as well as enjoy reviews by Justene Adamec, at this link. Authors he’s interviewed include: Michael Craft, Michael Nava, C.S. Poe, Frank Butterfield, Marshall Thornton, R.E. Bradshaw, Jon Michaelsen, and Garrick Jones, with many more to come.

About Brad Shreve:

After growing up in Michigan and North Carolina, Brad crisscrossed the country while working in the hotel industry. In addition to working in hotels as a bellman, front desk clerk, and reservation call center director, he managed coffee houses, waited tables, sold potato chips off a truck, and even hawked pre-burial funeral plans.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak developed his first interests in art and storytelling. He’d spend hours on the floor sketching and painting and writing stories.

My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George gave him his first inklings that he’d like to be a novelist someday. Authors Lawrence Block, Sue Grafton, Gregory Mcdonald and Robet B. Parker, influenced his love of mystery.

Brad was delighted when he discovered the gay mystery subgenre and the list of writers who inspired me to follow this more comfortable direction are too numerous to mention.

As a grownup Brad was thinking of what he wanted to do when he became a bigger grownup and the answer was obvious. His fingertips have been on the keyboard ever since.

Brad is a proud dad, beach bum, and coffee house squatter. He currently live in the Los Angeles South Bay with his husband, Maurice.

About the Gay Mystery Authors Podcast

Brad was delighted when he discovered the gay mystery subgenre and the list of writers who inspired him to pursue a writing career are too numerous to mention. In 2019, he published his first novel, A Body in a Bathhouse. The next in the Mitch O’Reilly Mystery Series will be released in early 2020. You can learn more about his books at BradShreve.com

Believing there is a whole section of society that is unaware that the gay mystery genre exists, he created this podcast.

About ‘A Body in a Bathhouse’

On the verge of bankruptcy private investigator Mitch O’Reilly takes any gig that comes his way while running his Eye Spy Supply shop in a forgotten Los Angeles strip mall. After two tours in Afghanistan, Mitch’s life amounts to running his store, coping with his fun-loving sister, Josie, and scoring with anonymous men he meets online. That changes when he gets a break. A beloved comedy scriptwriter is murdered at a bathhouse, and Mitch is hired to prove the innocence of the club custodian. Adapting from a two-bit gumshoe to a high-profile sleuth proves more challenging than he expected.

As if Mitch didn’t have enough to deal with, playful bathhouse operator Trent Nakos enters his life. After a heartbreaking past, the manager is the definition of a man the brooding P.I. actively avoids.

Following leads from sprawling mansions to sketchy hoods is demanding but becomes more troublesome when deadly threats jeopardize the biggest opportunity of his career.
